With scores of tourists making their way to Palolem beach on Saturday evening, police had a tough time controlling traffic at the famed beach on Christmas eve.

The turnout of domestic visitors was such that the narrow road leading to Palolem beach was blocked, compelling the police to erect barricades at one site and divert traffic to the vacant fields as makeshift parking lots.

While the parking of several local and inter-state vehicles in the vacant paddy fields eased traffic congestion along the route, visitors were inconvenienced as they were made to walk a distance of more than 1 km to and from Palolem beach.

Police had a hard time controlling the visitors, with many entering into heated discussions with law enforcement agencies after they were made to park well away from Palolem beach.

To make matters worse, ongoing road digging works to lay electricity cables further reduced the width of the narrow road for motorists.
