Culture bridge puts us together, says Baretto

Terming culture as a good bridge to put all together, the Secretary of State for Culture of the Government of Portugal, George Barreto Xavier, spoke about the need for safeguarding heritage and language which can be put together through culture.
Addressing a gathering on his visit to MMC on Friday, Barreto, who is the son-of-the-soil hailing from Margao, lamented the fact that culture is the “third choice” in politics. “Culture is important. It is our identity. If we understand that, we can do better,” he remarked.
Lauding India's multi-cultural society, Barreto pointed out how each community has its own identity in this country.
Earlier, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai expressed the need for preserving culture and heritage. Lamenting the fact that people who manage culture do not understand it, the Fatorda legislator claimed culture is “trivialised” in India and Goa. “Culture has to be managed and run by experts,” he remarked.
Sardesai also pointed out the near collapse of the old MMC building while stating that the same needs to be conserved.
In her welcome address, MMC Chairperson, Dr Babita Angle Prabhudessai, spoke about the Goan culture as a symphony of Indo-Western cultures where harmony exists between all the communities.
MMC Vice-Chairperson Doris Texeira and MMC Chief Officer Y Tawde were also present on this occasion.
'Together for Margao' has organised a function to felicitate Margao MLA and former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat at the hands of educationist, Dr Suresh Gundu Amonkar on Sunday, 11 December 2016 at 5 p.m. at Costa Ground, Margao.
A press release issued by president of 'Together for Margao', Vishwanath Borkar, informs that former Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Tomazinho Cardozo, MMC Chairperson Dr Babita Angle Prabhudessai, Vice-Chairperson Doris Texeira, Asha D Kamat and others will also be present on this occasion.
Borkar claims Kamat's felicitation is for the latter's contribution for Margao such as the South Goa Collectorate complex, District Hospital, Ring Road, Ana Fonte Garden, Master Balancing Reservoir, Underground Sewerage system, Underground Electric Cabling, etc.
Borkar said 'Together For Margao' is formed by the young well wishers of Margao MLA and will work towards betterment of Margao by extending full and unconditional support to the vision of Digambar Kamat.
The felicitation function is to be followed by a musical concert titled 'Swar Saanj' conceptualised by Vaishnavi Creations which will feature 'Saregama' fame Vishwajeet Borwankar, Abhilasha Chellam, Comedy Express fame Akshata Sawant, Goan Idol Samruddha Chodankar where film actress Samira Gujar will perform live, mentions the press release.
