Calling for a revolution, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Luizinho Faleiro yesterday appealed to the people of Goa to defeat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming assembly election and bring back Congress to power.

“Take oath at Martyr's Memorial to bring Congress back to power to stop injustice meted out by the BJP government" said Faleiro on Tuesday at Patradevi while addressing party workers after launching the Jan Jangruti Padyatra, a state-wide campaign of the party which will conclude on December 13 at Canacona after passing through 34 constituencies and covering 262 kms. Two constituencies of Pernem and Mandrem during were covered during the day on Tuesday.

The Padyatra started at the Martyr's Memorial at Patradevi after the Congress leaders paid tributes to the martyrs. Opposition Leader Pratapsing Rane, former chief ministers Digambar Kamat and Francis Sardinha, former minister Sangeeta Parab, former Pernem MLA Babu Azgaonkar and other leaders were present on the occasion.

Former chief minister Digambar Kamat also urged the people to be part of the revolution by electing the Congress once again.

Opposition leader Pratapsing Rane said the present BJP government did not believe in democracy and hence, there was a need to change the government.

Former Pernem MLA Babu Azgaonkar along with his supporters later staged a motorcycle rally in Pernem city where they were met by Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, former MLAs Dayanand Sopte and Jitendra Deshprabhu, Congress State vice-president Babi Bagkar and others.

As the Jan Jagruti Padyatra proceeded to Mandrem constituency, aspirants to the Mandrem ticket along with a large number of Congress supporters joined the rally. GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro and Youth Congress General Secretary Girish Chodankar flagged off the awareness rally near Rawalnath temple at Keri.

Pratapsing Rane, former minister Philip Neri Rodrigues, Congress vice-president Babi Bagkar, Congress youth president Sachin Parab, former union minister Ramakant Khalap and others were present.

Members of Youth Congress and Women's Congress also took part in the awareness rally.

Speaking on the occasion, Bagkar said the 'Padyatra' is to oppose the present BJP government.

“We have got a good response to the rally and we are confident that citizens will vote for a change and bring the Congress party back to power,” added Bagkar.
