Police is yet to achieve any breakthrough over the attack on a lawyer in Mapusa even as some Mapusa-based lawyers on Wednesday evening met the Mapusa PI and requested him to conduct a free and fair probe in the case.

Mapusa Police refused to divulge any information but sources said police were working on some leads and were closing on the perpetrators of the crime.

Reliable sources informed that police were trying to locate and look into the CCTV footage from the surrounding areas where the offence took place.

Police were also trying to track the Innova car allegedly used by the accused as informed by the victim in his complaint.

The syringe found in the office of the lawyer has been sent for forensic examination and police are waiting for an opinion.

Police also quizzed two accused involved in the Luiza murder case in Anjuna and who are out on bail and where the victim lawyer was a government witness.

“We have got some clues and we are working in that direction. We can’t disclose any more information which will harm our investigations,” said Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar.

It may be recalled that a Mapusa-based lawyer was attacked by three unknown persons with a syringe on Tuesday.

The three unidentified persons entered Adv Dnyaneshwar Kalangutkar's office located near the Mapusa court and tried to inject him with some white coloured liquid.

In the meantime, the victim lawyer was still in GMC Hospital and was doing fine, police informed.

Meanwhile, over 100 lawyers under the banner of Mapusa Advocate’s Forum met under the chairmanship of Adv Rajiv Colvalkar at Mapusa Court Complex on Thursday evening and passed a resolution condemning the attack on one of their colleagues and urged Mapusa Police to conduct free and fair investigation in the case.

In another resolution, the Forum also decided to request the court to monitor the investigation if required.

Over 40 Mapusa-based lawyers then met the Mapusa PI, Tushar Lotlikar and DySP, Mahesh Gaonkar and urged them to expedite the investigation in the case.

Adv Rajiv Colvalkar, Adv Paresh Rao, Adv Prabhkar Nerulkar, Adv Deepak Tilve, Adv Benedict and others led the delegation of the lawyers to the Mapusa Police Station.
