“The ODP is kept on display at Calangute and Candolim Panchayat offices and at the NGPDA offices at Candolim and Porvorim and also in the office of the Calangute MLA at Calangute. The land use map will be kept open for 30 days and suggestions and objections are invited from the stakeholders,” Lobo told the mediapersons.
“Once we receive suggestions and objections from the stakeholders, discussions will be held and if necessary, changes will be done in the land use map, and within one month the work of ODP of Calangute and Candolim Panchayats will be taken up and it will be completed within 3 months and ODP will be implemented within 6 months,” stated Lobo.
“The Calangute and Candolim Comunidades have offered to give 13 lakh sq mtrs of land to build infrastructure and entertainment facilities. The government will use this land to create infrastructure and the land has been notified in the land use map,” informed Lobo.
“There is many fold increase in population in both the coastal panchayats and construction activities have also increased. Since there was development of only hotels, basic facilities were neglected and hence the government has included both the panchayats in NGPDA for planned development. The ODP which is being prepared now should have been prepared 20 years back,” said Lobo.
“The NGPDA had to spent 6 months to prepare the land use map, as there were 1,500 objections and suggestions from the stakeholders. It is good that the Candolim Panchayat has reserved land for a playground. As per land use map, a jogging park, gardens for children and community halls will be built. A 20-mtr road will be constructed from Sinquerim to Baga. As per the suggestions from the residents of Sinquerim, Aguada hill has been notified as ‘No Development Zone,” added Lobo.
“We have got good cooperation from the Candolim Panchayat, but the Calangute Panchayat has failed to cooperate with us. This panchayat is in the forefront to oppose everything,”
alleged Lobo.
