Congressmen Durgadas Kamat and his group of young leaders including Tanvir Khatib, Keshav Desai, Feroz Khan resigned from the Congress party and have joined the nascent Goa Forward party during the party’s Goa State youth conclave held in the city.

The young men, who earlier led a revolt against the ‘oldies’ in the Congress party seeking changes in important decision making bodies, were earlier known to be leaning towards the Goa Forward party.

Earlier, the Goa Forward during its youth conclave held on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day passed resolutions committing itself to the youth of Goa, to the land and soil of the State as well as to employment and entrepreneurship.

The resolutions, which could most likely reflect in the manifesto later, pledges to ensure free Wifi facilities for the entire State. Another resolution adopted is to pass a special Goa-specific law regulating sound. This is because the Madhya Pradesh Control of Music & Noises Act is not conducive to Goa since “Goa is the centre of tourism, entertainment and events.” Anotherresolution is to 'tighten the rules in respect of conversion of land with a view to preserve agricultural land, horticulture and forest wealth.'

Among other generic resolutions adopted, one includes adequate funds to be allocated to education at all levels for upgrading and consistent development of infrastructure, curriculum and human resources, developing Goa as the knowledge hub with quality institutions in research, design, science, films, information technology and other areas.

Others include a land acquisition policy which makes the land losers as stakeholders in the project for which the acquisition is made; to make coconut tree as Goa State Tree and repeal the recent amendment made under the Preservation Act by BJP government as well as to ensure 80 per cent job reservation to Goans in private sector and cent per cent in public sector.
