Govt will be forced to stop grants to English schools: BBSM

In a stern warning to the State government, Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) on Sunday stated that if government grants to English medium primary schools are not stopped by June, then they will not agitate, but create a situation where the government will be forced to stop the grants.

BBSM took the decision at a meeting at Mandrem, the constituency of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar. The meeting was organised at Mandrem High School premises and over 3000 Bhasha protagonists were present. Slogans were raised to support the stand taken by the BBSM. BBSM convenor Subhash Velingkar, Adv Uday Bhembre, Arvind Bhatikar, Pundlaik Naik, Adv Swati Kerkar, Ashok Mandrekar, Subhas Desai, Nagesh Karmali, Laxmikant Shetgaokar, Vinayak Chari, ZP member Shrimati Manjrekar, Gajanan Manjrekar and Babai Kerkar were present. Speaking at the meeting, BBSM convenor Velingkar said their agitation has now become the agitation of the people of Goa. “There was lot of pressure on the people of Pernem not to attend the BBSM meeting on Sunday, but they didn t pay heed to it and attended in large numbers. If the government thinks people can be taken for granted, time is not far away to pull down this government down,” he said. “The govt has no time to talk to BBSM, but they bent before FORCE convenor Savio Lopes. This government is dancing to the tunes of some persons,” alleged Velingkar. “The Congress government had given grants to English medium primary schools and people of Goa rejected that the Congress and BJP will meet the same fate, if they don t read the pulse of the people,” warned Velingkar. Others who spoke at the meeting warned that people will reject this government.
