The Aam Aadmi Party netted a prized catch in Velim constituency when former Ambelim sarpanch, Cruz Silva, along with his workers, embraced the party at the historic Lohia Chowk, Assolna on Thursday.

A former Ambelim sarpanch, Cruz had sympathised with the AAP when the party had a meeting at Chinchinim a couple of months ago. His decision to embrace AAP assumes significance as Cruz had in the past disclosed his plans to contest the 2017 Assembly election from Velim constituency.

It could not be ascertained whether the former Ambelim sarpanch has joined the party on a promise by the AAP party to nominate him for the Velim seat, but sources said the fact that Cruz has decided to embrace the party will give a boost to AAP’s presence in the constituency.

While Cruz and his workers finally embraced AAP on Thursday, the AAP leaders also launched from the historic Lohia Chowk at Assolna its 'Unite Goa' campaign in Velim constituency, with more than 100 people joining the party.

Local AAP leader, Jerson Gomes, Adv. Adonis Colaco, along with Goa state convenor, Rajeshree Nagarsekar, addressed the volunteers and members while a number of local leaders from other constituencies joined the activity. A door to door campaign was also launched wherein volunteers numbering around 30 went around the village to talk to the people about the party, making volunteers and members as well as a survey was also conducted by the volunteers which is aimed towards getting the mandate of the people to contest the upcoming Goa Assembly elections.

AAP Coordinator, Rajeshree Nagarsekar said that buoyed by the response of people towards its ongoing awareness campaign across multiple constituencies, AAP has started a massive connectivity programme called 'Goa Jodo' (Unite Goa).

The campaign is intended to reach out to Goans across the state and unite them on the AAP platform, which has now emerged as the only reliable alternative to provide a corruption-free and people-focused

"The government that can salvage what is left of Goa after years of divisive and destructive rule by the BJP & Congress. Along with the ongoing door-to-door campaign, AAP volunteers have been organising at least 10 corner meetings everyday in various constituencies, with a target of a minimum of 300 meetings over the month of April. A number of these meetings are being held outside the homes and compounds of those who have joined the party during party's door-to-door campaign. It is amply clear during the activity that the Goans are completely disillusioned with the fascist, corrupt, and untrustworthy Govt led by the BJP. Some of the many issues that people have raised during the campaign are the mounting debt incurred due to financial mismanagement,” she added.
