PANAJI: Porvorim police on Friday busted a prostitution ring, arresting a government employee among two while they were in the act of supplying three girls to their clients near Gauri petrol pump at Porvorim. The victims hail from Mumbai and Belgavi and have been placed under the care of Protective Home, Merces after medical tests were conducted and necessary orders obtained from Deputy Collector and SDM, Mapusa.

A police team led by PI Jivba Dalvi comprising PSI Somnath Mahajik, PSI Sajith Pillai, four police constables, one lady police constable and two members of NGO -- Care for India -- conducted the raid between 7.30 pm to 10 pm and arrested Pravin Parab (30) resident of Altinho, Mapusa and native of Mopa, Pernem and Pragati Parab (27) née Sufiya Khan, native of Mumbai.

It was revealed that the accused Pravin Parab is currently employed as an assistant operator at Water Resource Department office in Dhargal. An intimation regarding his arrest has been given conveyed to his department.

An offence has been registered against the two accused under Section 4 (living on the earnings of prostitution), 5 (procuring, inducing or taking person for the sake of prostitution) and 7 (prostitution in or in the vicinity of public place) of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 and Section 370 (buying or disposing of any person as a slave) read with 34 of IPC.

Porvorim police informed that based on specific and reliable information, the raid was conducted off NH 17 highway (Panaji - Mapusa), near Gauri petrol pump, Porvorim.

During the course of the raid, the accused persons were caught red-handed along with the victims in a car, where they had come to deliver the girls to their clients. It was also revealed that the accused were found living on money earned by victims through prostitution.

Police also informed that Pragati alias Sufiya was involved in prostitution herself and is presently suspected to be supplying girls.

Cash worth Rs 35,680, three mobile phones and the car used for transporting the girls to the clients were also attached.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of SDPO, Porvorim Nelson Albuquerque and Superintendent of Police (North) Umesh Gaokar. Further investigation is in progress under PI Dalvi.
